“23 You who fear the LORD, praise him! All you offspring of Jacob, glorify him and stand in awe of him, all you offspring of Israel!”
Today, we look into the 22nd Psalm. There is a clear command and no better command to start your day with. Often, we can think of not wanting to sing praises to God because we are not in the mood, we are afraid we are being hypocritical because of fear and failures, or we need to warm up some way or another to praise God. Nothing could be further from the truth!
You who are trepidatious to praise Him because you lack a desire stir up within yourself the determination to worship your Creator! You who are not in the mood to sing joyful praises, discipline yourself to sing the truths of our God and Father! You who are fearful to praise Him because of your sin, praise Him for His grace, mercy, and forgiveness! Sing Psalm 51 with a weeping heart and bless His holy name! You who are sincerely thinking that you need to have some semblance of a warm-up to work yourself into a “worshipful state” do you not know your purpose? You were made to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever! Why would you waste a second like you are an oven that requires a pre-heat to be useful? The Lord has fashioned you in the make of microwave rather. Press the button. Make the choice. Make it happen, and watch it all come together.
There is beauty in a singular, tired voice in the early hours of the day beginning to croak and sing the words of Doxology! Your Savior does not need your vocal cords to warm up. He does not even need your worship. He simply knows this is what is best for you! So, do what is best for yourself, get out of bed, and praise the Lord our God!
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Dan
