“9 Know therefore that the LORD your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations,”
God is God…what a beautiful, all-encompassing statement. I love that God is so mindful of how forgetful His people are that He continually reminds them of who He is, what He has done, and what He has said. God is God. Let that sink in for a second. Many times in our lives, stress, anxiety, anger, lust, and the things of this life can so easily derail us from our purpose: to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever.
Keep in mind that God is saying this just a few generations after He delivered His people who were slaves of Egypt by turning the Nile to blood, creating a frog infestation, sending swarms of gnats, killing livestock, afflicting with boils, casting down hail and fire, having locusts eat the rest of the crops, taking away the light of the sun, and killing the firstborn of the Egyptians before the finale of parting the ENTIRE RED SEA and having it crash back over the Egyptians chasing the Israelites. You would think these stories about God’s faithfulness would last a few hundred years.
Alas, God is more patient than you and me. He reminds His people that He is faithful, keeps His promises, and has steadfast love for His true children. Walk through your day today being reminded of your amazing God, and in light of that, work hard to love Him and keep His commandments.
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Dan
